Reading Blue Coat School has a particular philosophy of what constitutes an effective education. This is founded upon the belief that what goes on outside the classroom is just as important as what happens within it. The academic and co-curricular are given equal importance in all aspects of school life, including within the senior management structure with the Academic Director and the Co-Curricular Director responsible for ensuring that pupils maximise their potential in each of these realms of school life. Distinctive features of our educational philosophy are: An education centred upon traditional subjects, taught by well qualified teachers. An education tailored to the individual – not a ‘one size fits all’ – which seeks to nurture and stretch the talents and interests of each individual pupil. An education which is broad and balanced, which sees the co-curricular (sport, culture, the arts, outward bound and adventurous activity etc) as being of equal importance as the academic. A first class track record in achievement: public examination results, university entrance, achievement in co-curricular activities. A community which is friendly, caring and mutually supportive, in which everyone treats each other with the respect with which they would want to be treated. - An education rooted in the traditional values of Christian ethics: concern for others, hard work, good manners and a high value placed upon the pursuit of knowledge.
An education which is forward looking, in touch with developments in the modern world: social, cultural, scientific and technological. |
