Reading Blue Coat School is fortunate enough to be situated on the River Thames close to Sonning  lock, the boat house is on site and, more importantly, is only 200 metres from the dining hall! The new Boat House was opened by Mark Hunter in September 2009.  We are the only club on the Caversham to Sonning reach which is a quiet and most attractive stretch of the river.  The club is growing in number and has reached over 100 boys who train competitively and represent the school at local and national level. Our oarsmen are distributed throughout Years 7 to Upper Sixth.

The Boat Club is headed by Mrs Jenny Coates of the Chemistry Department. The seniors are coached by Mr Moffatt.  Other staff coaches are Old Blue Mr Simon Johnson, Mr Russell Slatford (Co-Curricular Director and Geology teacher), Miss Williamson (English teacher), Dr Chen (Chemistry teacher) and Miss Van der Werf (Head of History).

The Friends of Boating is a mainly parental support body for the Boat Club with an active round of social and fund-raising events.
