Boys arrive in Year 7 from a variety of Preparatory and Primary schools. There is an almost equal (60:40) mix of boys from Independent and State schools. Please see the attached list of feeder schools.

Upon entry, boys are placed under the care of a tutor in a mixed tutor group - there will be equal numbers of Year 7 and 8 boys in each tutor group, the group number averaging 16. This allows for close contact between new pupils and tutor, and also affords the support and encouragement of the Year 8 boys, who are able to share their experience of the school and act as ‘mentors' to the new boys, with their own experience of being new still in recent memory.

Involvement in a House offers boys the opportunity to be involved in competitive co-curricular activities and charitable work from the beginning, as does the wide range of sports on offer with their extensive fixture lists. Similarly there are early opportunities for involvement in the Arts.

In addition to their tutor base, Year 7 and 8 boys share a common room, their own social area. Here the pastoral staff and prefects are available to chat and to offer support every day, especially at lunchtime.

Do come and visit the school for yourself. You will see a vibrant, busy, friendly school at work, a place where boys of all backgrounds find themselves at home.
