Welcome to the Sixth Form at Reading Blue Coat - a highly successful Sixth Form both academically and in co-curricular areas of the school.

We firmly believe that the best way to ensure continuing high standards is to allow each of the individuals who study here an opportunity to take responsibility for themselves as young adults. We aim to provide our pupils with a secure, and yet stimulating environment in which they can grow both intellectually and socially.  Potentially, they have a very exciting two years ahead and we are here to help them realise this potential.  However, we know that their success in fulfilling their ambitions will depend greatly upon how well they adapt to the study and living routine of the Sixth Form at RBCS.  To this end they will receive direction and will be required to meet the requirements, demands and expectations of our Sixth Form.  All students are expected to enter into the spirit of the School, in every sense.

A Level study is quite different, in many subjects, from GCSEs. Our Study Skills Course will give guidance for coping with the difference. We work hard to ensure pupils learn as quickly as they can the right ways of working.

We expect pupils to get involved straightaway with co-curricular clubs and societies; show themselves willing to take on a little extra responsibility, especially in the House System. Their leadership and example does much to promote positive attitudes and the development of younger pupils.

Sixth formers need to become used to interacting - with their tutor, their teachers, their peer group and the younger members of the School who look to them to take a lead. Don't think sixth formers' behaviour or appearance doesn't matter. It most surely does! With increased privileges come increased responsibilities.

Above all, we take every opportunity to impress upon sixth formers the means by which we can all create a fine and memorable Sixth Form: friendship and co-operation.

Philip Wise, Director of Sixth Form
