The School has a strong tradition in Art and Design that is reflected in a wide diversity of artistic styles and consistently high public examination results. The subject is a popular choice at GCSE and Advanced levels. A student wishing to apply for an Art Scholarship should be able to submit a folder of work that documents a full range of abilities. The Department would like to see evidence of a high level of skill and knowledge within the fundamentals of Art and Design, i.e. perspective, shading and colour mixing. Exposure to the disciplines of still life, landscape, the human figure and, of course, 3D would be particularly advantageous. If a candidate is engaged in purely design based projects, then evidence of this should be included in the folder. Art Scholarships of up to 25% of the tuition fees may be awarded to pupils who are gifted in Art. Eligibility for an Art Scholarship will depend on the candidate passing the school Entrance Examination. An Art scholar will be expected to play a full and willing role in the life of the School as requested by the Director of Art.Candidates will be called for an interview at which they will be required to present a portfolio that illustrates the progression and standard of their work. The contents of the portfolio will be discussed and used in the assessment of artistic potential. A letter of recommendation regarding the candidate’s suitability for the award of a scholarship will be requested from the candidate’s school. Applications should be submitted on the appropriate form. |
