Welcome to Reading Blue Coat School, founded in 1646 by Richard Aldworth, a merchant of the Skinners' company and a Governor of Christ's Hospital. Originally known as Aldworth's Hospital School, the school was established near St Mary's Minster Church in Reading to provide 'education and bringing up of 20 poor male children'.
Today his school is thriving, with 670 pupils (including 50 sixth form girls) purposefully engaged in developing their enormous potential, on our beautiful 44 acre estate in the village of Sonning, on the bank of the River Thames. The care and nurturing of the individual is our primary concern. Academic success is an important part of our goal, but of equal importance are the other facets to education that equip young people to meet the challenges of life in the workplace and in the family with confidence and assuredness. This school thrives on positive relationships, ambition and inspiration. Please come and visit us to see for yourself. |
